A Cargo of Green Hearts
~POEMS~
I used to want the
world to take the silence from my mouth like a holy wafer. now I only offer it to the sea and wind. a bed of waves, I say. a thigh of northerly across my pink flesh. there are not words enough for the unfairness of the world. our tongues keep stacking the stones. let the night lay her eyelids on my lips. let the counting of stars begin. I want to die with a heart no heavier than a whisper. an old pain wakes me
memory of November the season that eats its own dead. a fingernail scribes something in the sky: " you are not long for this world." I know the red leaf will fall. my grandmother waits to lead me to the lake bottom where we will join the deathless frogs. when the ice comes we will polish its milky underside so that we can see the sun. |
